About Your Home Editor: Community Involvement :: 727.239.3511

Your Home Editors firmly believe in the importance of stewardship, community, and giving back. Heather has found the perfect connection in the Hillsborough County Public Schools AVID program.

She donates countless hours each year speaking to the middle and high school AVID students about the importance of organization and time management skills for success in school and in life. The presentations allow her the opportunity to combine her previous experience as a high school teacher and current experience as an organizer.

Most recently, Heather was a finalist for the Philanthropy Award at the 2010 NAPO Los Angeles Awards ceremony this past January for her efforts in creating an "Organized for Life" Girl Scout patch (see her blog, The Big O, for patch and details).  Though she didn't win, she did get to meet organizing guru and Oprah regular, Peter Walsh (see picture, left).

Heather remains actively involved with the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida and conducts frequent workshops at their offices in South Tampa to help Brownies, Girl Scouts and Juniors work the curriculum and attain the Organized for Life patch she created.

Most recently, Heather was nominated for the Tampa Bay Business Journal's 2010 Business Woman of the Year (awards to be held late August 2010). Last year, Heather was chosen as a finalist at the 2009 Tampa Bay Young Professionals Awards in the Community Service Young Professional of the Year category.

She also spearheaded the re-organization of the Rec Center at the Grace House in Clearwater, rallying several of her organizing peers to help. Photos of the transformation are posted on the Your Home Editor Facebook page.

Heather also was a committee chair on the Tampa Bay Orgnaizers' Shred-a-Thon--an annual paper shredding event held simultaneously in St. Petersburg and Tampa--which raised more than $2,500 for the Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay in 2009 and more than $1,500 for the Chidlren's Cancer Center in 2010.  Photos and details of this event are also on the Your Home Editor Facebook page.

Heather is the Vice President of Public Relations for her City Power 911 Toastmasters group.  She is also a committee Chair for the Wine Women and Shoes fundraiser, a three-day event that will raise money to grant children's dreams this November 2010.
